Is certified translation the same as notarized translation?

No, they are not the same. When a document is certified, the completed translation and original copy are accompanied by a signed statement from the translator. The statement attests to the accuracy and completeness of the translation. A notarized translation is when a notary public stamps the translation after verifying the identity of a translator. A notary public DOES NOT verify the accuracy of a translation. Most US institutions do not require notarizations but only certified translations. There is no need to notarize a document when submitting it to the USCIS.

What is USCIS?

USCIS stands for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the government agency, overseeing lawful immigration to the United States.

Can the order be late?

  • The order can be late only when our translators encounter problems deciphering a document either due to the quality of the handwritten elements, or the clarity of the image/scan, which is why we always ask our customers to provide us high quality image ASASP.
  • Sometimes there may be a delay in finding the right translator for the order, especially with less common languages, which is another reason the order can be a little late.

What is a certified translation?

A certified translation is a translation accompanied by a signed statement from Alfa Translating & Legal Center, which attests to the thoroughness and accuracy of the translation, but not the validity of the original document.

Who requires a certified translation?

  • USCIS
  • Foreign governments
  • Universities
  • Employers

Can you mail certified translations?

Yes we can mail it upon request. However, additional charges for the delivery will apply.
